"Opposition to LPG storage arises from the fact that the risk of explosion imperils the whole community, the danger of water contamination threatens drinking water in four counties, and the heavy industrialization of Seneca Lake jeopardizes a now-thriving wine, food, and tourism economy for whole region. The many risks of this project seem, to many people, regressive and reckless."

Women on (and against) fracking

Hydraulic fracturing, known as 'fracking' is a present danger in communities across the USA, a threat to many others, and is a technology that the fracking industry would like to sell worldwide.
So What is it?
Hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”, is the process of drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside. See sidebar for resources.

More than a Pipeline... by Mina Hamilton

In a series of accessible research papers, energy expert Mina Hamilton takes on important -- and dangerous -- aspects of gas pipeline projects that are less known than the laying of pipe. more

Sandra Steingraber helps defeat fracking in NYS

From her website: New York State Becomes the First State with Significant Shale Gas to Ban Fracking. "On December 17, 2014, at the conclusion of New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s cabinet meeting, acting Health Commissioner Howard Zucker recommended the state reject high-volume hydraulic fracturing. The Cuomo administration will now move to prohibit fracking statewide. Dr. Steingraber: “This victory is an incredible affirmation of science and the principles of public health."

Theo Colborn, 1927-2014

Dr. Theo Colborn, expert in epidemiology, toxicology, water chemistry and pollution, did pioneering work on the health effects of pollution, including the role of chemicals as endocrine disrupters, affecting the mental, physical and sexual health of humans and (other) animals. Her 1997 classic "Our Stolen Future: Are We Threatening Our Fertility, Intelligence, And Survival? - A Scientific Detective Story," with Dianne Dumanoski and John Peterson Myers, was an early influence on the development of this website. (See our review here.)
Read more about her work and endocrine disruption at the website she developed: http://endocrinedisruption.org/about-tedx/theo-colborn

From the website: "Dr. Colborn has delivered her talk "What You Need to Know About Natural Gas Production" many times across the country. It has educated and motivated individuals nationwide to organize and address the environmental and health issues raised by natural gas operations. She calls for full public disclosure of all chemicals used during drilling and fracturing and raises the issues of ground-level ozone and air pollution that have been almost completely ignored.

Now, TEDX has produced a video of this lecture, complete with photos and data slides to illustrate the fact that natural gas is not the 'clean energy' that industry is touting it to be." more

She was reviewing her last major work just days before her passing, on the health dangers from fossil fuel pollution -- an indictment of fracking too. Download it here:
